Slippery Fish

Slippery Fish are a four piece covers band from Surrey with a simple mission…..play brilliant songs that deserve to be heard live, just not the ones every other pub band trots out on a Saturday night.

Their setlists swerve gleefully from Joe Jackson to Arctic Monkeys, from The Stranglers to Elton John, with Elvis Costello, The Sweet and plenty more thrown into the mix alongside a handful of their own originals. If it’s a quality tune with a bit of edge, chances are Slippery Fish have got it in the tank.

The band came together in 2018 after drummer Danny and bassist Pete struck up an unlikely friendship in a butcher’s shop. Pete brought in guitarist and vocalist Ian, and the three piece hit the ground running with a shared determination to prove that a covers band doesn’t have to mean the same tired setlist you’ve heard a thousand times before.

After the enforced hiatus of Covid, the band regrouped and, after what they describe as “many discussions and deliberations”, landed on the name Slippery Fish. They won’t tell you where it came from, but you won’t forget it in a hurry. In 2024, guitarist Nigel joined the lineup, adding extra firepower and freeing Ian up to focus on delivering the vocals.

Now a tight, four-piece outfit with a growing reputation on the Surrey pub and festival circuit, Slippery Fish bring energy, variety and a genuine love of great music to every stage they play. And no, they don’t do Spice Girls. Yet.
